Kitchen cabinet doors dropping out of line
Cabinet doors no longer line up: gaps are uneven, edges clash when closing, or a door sags and drags on the one below. It often starts with the heaviest or most used doors.
Carpentry
Scheduled work. A door or lock that will not secure is prioritised.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Hinges out of adjustment
Door realigns with hinge adjustment.
Hinge screws pulling out of the carcass
Screws loose in enlarged holes.
Carcass swollen from water
Board edges swollen near the sink or dishwasher.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Check whether hinge screws are loose.
- Look for swelling near the sink and dishwasher.
- Avoid hanging heavy items on doors.
- Note which doors are worst.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We check each hinge, its adjustment range and its fixing into the carcass, and inspect the board for swelling around hinge plates and near the sink and dishwasher. Adjustment fixes many doors in minutes; where screws have stripped the board, the fixing is repaired first, because adjustment will not hold on a hinge that is moving in its holes.
04IN A VILLA
Villa kitchens are large and heavily used, often with tall larder doors, heavy pantry units and a separate back kitchen that sees most of the daily cooking. Water from sinks, dishwashers and cleaning reaches board edges over the years, and the board around a hinge plate is where it does the most damage, because that is where the door’s weight is carried.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Misaligned doors wear hinges and edges and can come off.
Adjust hinges
Fixings are sound.
Repair hinge fixings
Screws have pulled out.
Replace swollen panels
Water has damaged the board.
06Typical villa carpentry work
AED 150 – 400 for a door adjustment, AED 300 – 900 for leaf or frame repair
Indicative market ranges, not a quotation — a firm price follows inspection. Wardrobe hinge and runner replacement typically falls between AED 150 and AED 500 per item.
07QUESTIONS
- Can I adjust hinges myself?
- Often, if fixings are tight.
- Why does the door keep dropping?
- Fixings may be pulling from the board.
- Can swollen panels recover?
- No, swollen board needs replacing.
- Do soft-close hinges need different adjustment?
- They adjust in the same way, but their damper can also wear; a door that slams or will not close fully may need a new hinge rather than adjustment.
