00VILLA GUIDE

Villa maintenance with pets

Pets are hard on a villa in predictable ways. Dogs dig up irrigation and chew drip lines, scratch doors and floors, and slip out through gaps under gates; cats find their way into ceiling voids and under decking; both shed hair into AC filters, drains and pool skimmers. Knowing where they cause wear makes maintenance easier and prevents the more expensive problems, such as a garden that quietly stops being watered.

01PART

Garden and irrigation

Dogs dig and chew exposed drip lines and sprinkler heads. Burying lines deeper, protecting heads and checking zones regularly keep watering working.

  • Walk zones to spot chewed lines.
  • Protect heads in play areas.
  • Bury drip lines under mulch.

02PART

Doors, floors and filters

Scratched doors and floors are cosmetic, but pet hair clogs AC filters and drains quickly. Clean filters more often and check shower drains after bathing pets.

  • Clean AC filters more often.
  • Clear drains after pet baths.
  • Protect door bottoms.

03PART

Gates and pool

Gates must close fully and not leave gaps at the bottom. Pool barriers protect pets too, and hair increases skimmer and filter load.

  • Check gate gaps.
  • Keep the pool gate closing.
  • Empty skimmer baskets often.

04QUESTIONS

Do pets affect AC?
Hair clogs filters and coils faster.
How do I stop dogs chewing irrigation?
Bury or protect lines and heads.
Can dogs use the pool?
Hair and debris increase filter load; clean more often.
Can pets damage cables?
Chewing can damage outdoor and exposed cables; protect them in conduit where pets have access.
Do pets affect the water tank or pump?
Not directly, but pets left in plant rooms or near equipment can damage cables and pipes, so those areas are better kept closed.
