Pedestrian gate lock not releasing

The pedestrian gate’s electric or magnetic lock clicks but does not release, releases only sometimes, or does nothing when the button, intercom or keypad is used.

Gates & Automation

A gate that cannot be opened or secured is treated as urgent.

01LIKELY CAUSES

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.

  • Lock power supply failed

    No voltage at the lock.

  • Gate misaligned with the lock

    Gate pressing on the keeper.

  • Release button or wiring fault

No signal when the button is pressed.

02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS

What you can safely check.

  • Use the key override if fitted.
  • Push the gate slightly while releasing.
  • Check the lock’s power supply indicator.
  • Note whether all release methods fail.

03WHAT WE MEASURE

We check the lock’s power supply and the voltage at the lock itself, then test the release from each input — indoor buttons, intercom, keypad or app — and finally the gate’s alignment with the lock keeper. A gate pressing on its lock can stop a healthy lock releasing.

04IN A VILLA

Villa pedestrian gates sit in boundary walls exposed to sun, sand and irrigation, with electric or magnetic locks wired back to intercoms, keypads and indoor buttons. Gates move slightly as hinges wear, and that small misalignment loads the lock.

05THE FIX

Which repair, and when.

People can be locked out or in, and workarounds leave the gate unsecured.

  1. Repair the power supply

    The lock has no power.

  2. Realign the gate

    It presses on the lock.

  3. Repair release wiring

Signals do not reach the lock.

06Typical villa gate callout

AED 200 – 1,100 depending on the fault

Sensor alignment, remote programming and track clearing sit at the lower end. Capacitors, control boards and gearbox work sit higher. Full motor replacement is quoted separately after inspection.
