Same or next day
Gate starts, moves partway, then stops or reverses
The gate begins to open or close, travels part of the way, then stops or reverses as if something were in the way. Sometimes it completes on a second attempt. The controller thinks it has hit an obstruction, from a sensor or from the motor working harder than its setting allows.
Gates & Automation
A gate that cannot be opened or secured is treated as urgent.
Call nowBook a gate check on WhatsApp01LIKELY CAUSES
What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Safety beam misaligned or dirty
Beam indicator flickers; gate behaves when beams are realigned.
Gate running stiffly on its track or hinges
Gate pushed manually with the motor released; resistance felt.
Force setting too sensitive for summer conditions
Controller force and slow-down settings reviewed.
Worn rack, gear or hinge
Play or uneven engagement along the gate run.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Clean the lenses of the safety beams on both posts.
- Clear sand, stones or leaves from the track or swing area.
- Note whether it stops at the same point every time.
- Never stand in the gate's path while testing it.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We release the motor and test the gate manually for stiffness, check beam alignment and signal, inspect rack, hinges and track, and review the controller force and slow-down settings. Settings are only adjusted once the gate runs freely.
04IN A VILLA
Villa gates are exposed to sun and wind-blown sand all year. Metal expands in summer heat, tracks fill with sand, and safety beams get knocked by cars and gardeners. Each makes the gate meet more resistance than its controller expects.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
A gate that stops partway can leave the property unsecured, and running a motor against resistance wears it out.
Clean, realign and test the safety beams
Sensing is at fault.
Clean the track, service hinges or rollers
The gate runs stiffly.
Replace worn rack or gear and reset force
Wear is causing uneven load.
06Typical villa gate callout
AED 200 – 1,100 depending on the fault
Sensor alignment, remote programming and track clearing sit at the lower end. Capacitors, control boards and gearbox work sit higher. Full motor replacement is quoted separately after inspection.
07QUESTIONS
- Should I turn up the force setting?
- Not until the gate runs freely. Force settings are part of its safety; masking a stiff gate with more force is dangerous.
- What does a gate callout cost?
- The typical range is AED 200 – 1,100 depending on the fault.
