Intercom not opening the gate
The intercom or video entry works for talking and seeing visitors, but pressing the release does nothing. Remotes still open the gate normally.
Gates & Automation
A gate that cannot be opened or secured is treated as urgent.
Call nowRequest intercom check on WhatsApp01LIKELY CAUSES
What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Release relay in the intercom failed
No output from the intercom when release is pressed.
Wiring between intercom and gate controller
Continuity fault on the release cable.
Gate controller input setting
Input disabled or wrongly configured.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Confirm remotes still open the gate.
- Check whether the pedestrian gate release works.
- Note whether the issue began after work or a storm.
- Use a remote to admit visitors meanwhile.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We press the release at each indoor monitor and the app if there is one, and measure whether the intercom’s release output switches. We then test the cable between the outdoor panel or intercom power unit and the gate controller, and check how the controller’s input is configured. That shows exactly where the command is lost, so the right part is repaired.
04IN A VILLA
Villa entry systems link indoor monitors on several floors, an outdoor panel in the boundary pillar and a gate controller, often installed by different contractors at different times. Cables run through pillars and under paving, where water, heat and later landscaping work take their toll.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Visitors and deliveries are delayed, and workarounds can leave gates open.
Repair the intercom relay
Release output fails.
Repair cabling
The connection is broken.
Reconfigure the controller
Inputs are set incorrectly.
06Typical villa gate callout
AED 200 – 1,100 depending on the fault
Sensor alignment, remote programming and track clearing sit at the lower end. Capacitors, control boards and gearbox work sit higher. Full motor replacement is quoted separately after inspection.
07QUESTIONS
- Why do remotes still work?
- They use a different input from the intercom.
- Is the intercom broken?
- Possibly just its release circuit.
- Can app-based intercoms be linked?
- Many can, with compatible controllers.
- Does it affect the pedestrian gate?
- Sometimes; they may share circuits.
