One zone stopped watering, the others are fine
A bed or a strip of lawn has started to wilt while the rest of the garden is fine. The controller shows that zone running on schedule, but nothing comes out. Because other zones work, the supply and the controller are probably fine — the problem is specific to that zone.
Irrigation & Landscape
A valve stuck open is treated as urgent because of the water it wastes.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Solenoid failed or disconnected
Coil resistance measured out of range, or no voltage reaching it.
Damaged field wire to that valve
Voltage at the controller terminal but none at the valve.
Valve diaphragm stuck or blocked with debris
Manual bleed at the valve opens the zone; electrical open does not.
Controller output for that station failed
No voltage at the station terminal when the zone is triggered.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Run the zone manually from the controller and watch for any movement.
- Check the zone was not set to zero minutes or skipped.
- Look at the valve box for that zone for damage or flooding.
- Note whether digging or planting happened near the zone recently.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We test the controller output for that station, follow the circuit to the valve, measure solenoid resistance and voltage at the valve, and open the valve manually. The sequence separates a controller, wiring, solenoid or valve fault.
04IN A VILLA
Villa gardens have several zones spread around the plot, with valve boxes buried in beds and field wires running under paths. Landscaping work, new planting and roots regularly damage those wires — one zone dying after garden work is a classic pattern.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Plants on that zone die in the summer heat, and replacing mature planting costs far more than the repair.
Replace the solenoid
The coil has failed.
Repair or replace the field wire
The circuit is broken between controller and valve.
Clean or rebuild the valve
The diaphragm is stuck or blocked.
06Typical villa irrigation callout
AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault
Controller, battery and single-solenoid faults sit at the lower end. Buried line location and repair sits higher and depends on where the fault turns out to be.
07QUESTIONS
- Can I water the zone by hand meanwhile?
- Yes. Many valves also have a manual bleed screw that opens them without the controller.
- What does an irrigation callout cost?
- The typical range is AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault, confirmed after diagnosis.
