A drain gurgles when another bathroom is used
Flush a toilet upstairs and the shower drain downstairs gurgles, or a basin bubbles when the bath empties. Sometimes there is a brief sewage smell. Water is pulling air through the wrong trap because the drainage cannot breathe properly or is partly blocked.

02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Note which fixtures gurgle and which use triggers it.
- Check whether traps are dry in rarely used bathrooms — run water to refill them.
- Notice any smell after the gurgle.
- Avoid caustic drain chemicals; they rarely fix venting and can damage seals.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We map which fixtures share a drain, watch trap levels while discharging elsewhere, inspect vent terminations and any air admittance valves, and rod or camera the shared run if a blockage is suspected.

Villas have several bathrooms on different floors feeding shared stacks. Vents terminate on roofs where debris, birds and dust can block them, and rarely used guest bathrooms let traps dry out, which shows up as smells and gurgles.

- Drain gases are unpleasant and should not be in living spaces. Restoring trap seals and venting stops them.
- Why does an unused bathroom smell?
- Its traps evaporate in the heat. Running water through them regularly keeps the seal.
