AC showing an error code and not running
The wall controller, the indoor unit display or a flashing light shows a code, and the unit will not cool. Sometimes it restarts after being switched off at the isolator; sometimes the same code returns within minutes. The code is the unit telling you which of its protections has stopped it.
Air Conditioning
AC failure in summer is treated as an emergency and scheduled ahead of routine work.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Sensor fault or loose sensor connection
The code points to a temperature sensor whose reading we test against a reference.
Communication fault between indoor and outdoor units
The code indicates communication loss; we test the interconnecting cable and terminals.
Protection trip from high pressure or overcurrent
Readings at the condenser show the condition that triggered the protection.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Write down or photograph the exact code and the unit model.
- Note whether it happened after a power cut, storm or work on the electrics.
- Try one restart at the isolator; if the code returns, leave it off.
- Do not open covers on the outdoor unit; parts stay live and hot.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We look up the code for that model, then test the specific circuit or sensor it refers to. Codes narrow the search, but they report the symptom the controller saw, not always the root cause — so we confirm with measurements before replacing a board or sensor.
04IN A VILLA
Villas frequently mix units of different ages and brands added over time, each with its own code list. Long cable runs between indoor units and roof condensers, exposed to heat and sometimes to rodents in ceiling voids, make communication faults more common than in compact apartment installations.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Repeatedly resetting a unit that trips on protection can damage the compressor or board. The code will usually come back until the cause is fixed.
Repair connections or interconnecting cable
A communication or loose-sensor fault is confirmed.
Replace the failed sensor
A sensor reads out of range.
Address the underlying trip
High pressure or overcurrent caused the protection to act.
06Typical villa AC callout
AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault
Diagnostic visit and measurement are quoted up front. Coil cleaning, fan motors and control faults sit at the lower end; compressor and refrigerant work at the upper. Anything involving parts is priced after inspection, never before.
07QUESTIONS
- Can I look up the code myself?
- Yes, the manual often lists it. It tells you the area of the fault, not always the fix.
- Is it safe to keep resetting?
- One reset is reasonable. If the code returns, leave it off.
- Does an error code mean a new board?
- Not necessarily. Many codes trace back to a sensor or a connection.
