Emergency response
The villa trips the board when the AC starts
The house runs normally until an AC compressor kicks in — then a breaker or the main switch trips and part or all of the villa goes dark. This looks like an AC fault but is often electrical, and it needs both trades' instruments to separate the two.
Air Conditioning
AC failure in summer is treated as an emergency and scheduled ahead of routine work.
Call nowRequest an urgent visit on WhatsApp01LIKELY CAUSES
What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Failing compressor start components or a shorted compressor winding
Start current measured far above normal, or insulation resistance on the compressor fails.
Undersized or worn breaker, or a loose connection at the board
Breaker rating, condition and terminal temperature checked under load.
Earth leakage on the AC circuit from damaged cable or moisture
Insulation test on the circuit and the outdoor unit's wiring.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Note which breaker trips — the AC circuit, the RCD or the main switch.
- Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips immediately; leave the AC off.
- Notice whether it happens only with one particular unit.
- If you smell burning or see scorching at the board, leave it off and call.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We measure the compressor's starting and running current, test the insulation resistance of the compressor and its circuit, and check the breaker and its connections at the board. The results show whether the AC is drawing too much, the circuit is leaking, or the protection is simply failing.
04IN A VILLA
A villa runs several large compressors from one board, often on circuits laid out at handover for the original equipment. Replacement units, added loads and long cable runs to roof condensers all change the picture, and loose terminals in a board that has heated and cooled for years are common.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Repeated high start currents and overheated terminals are a fire risk at the board, and a compressor fighting a fault can fail completely.
Replace start capacitor or contactor
Start components have failed but the compressor tests sound.
Repair the circuit or correct the protection
The fault is in cabling, terminals or a wrongly rated breaker.
Compressor or outdoor unit replacement
The compressor winding has failed insulation tests.
06Typical villa AC callout
AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault
Diagnostic visit and measurement are quoted up front. Coil cleaning, fan motors and control faults sit at the lower end; compressor and refrigerant work at the upper. Anything involving parts is priced after inspection, never before.
07QUESTIONS
- Is this an AC job or an electrical job?
- Often both. We test the compressor and the circuit together so the cause is found rather than the symptom treated twice.
- Can I use the other units in the meantime?
- If only one unit causes the trip and its circuit can be isolated, the others can usually run. Leave the faulty one off.
