Same or next day
A breaker trips in the evening, almost never in the morning
The trips follow a routine: early evening, when the family is home, cooking, washing and cooling the house at once. Mornings are fine. Timing like this points at load and heat rather than a random fault.
Electrical
Burning smells, arcing and warm faceplates are treated as emergencies and take priority over everything else.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Too much load stacked on one circuit at peak times
Current measured on the circuit under typical evening use exceeds its rating.
Loose or heat-damaged connection that worsens as it warms
Terminal temperature rises under load; discolouration at the breaker or a socket.
Breaker weakened by age and repeated trips
Breaker trips below its rated current on test.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Note which breaker trips and what was running at the time.
- Check for warm or discoloured sockets on that circuit.
- Try moving one heavy appliance to a different circuit for a few evenings.
- Do not replace a breaker with a larger one — it removes the protection.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We identify everything on the circuit, measure current under a realistic load, check terminal temperatures at the board and on accessories, and test the breaker itself. The aim is to know whether the circuit is overloaded, damaged or protected by a failing device.
04IN A VILLA
Villa kitchens, laundries and outdoor equipment were often wired for the appliances fitted at handover. Families add second fridges, larger ovens and garden equipment, and the load stacks up on circuits never planned for it.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Overheated connections are a fire risk, and nuisance trips tend to get worse rather than better.
Redistribute loads or add a circuit
The circuit is genuinely overloaded.
Remake damaged connections
Heat damage is found at terminals or accessories.
Replace the breaker
The device itself is failing.
06Typical villa electrical callout
AED 180 – 1,200 depending on scope
Socket, fitting and single-circuit faults sit low in the band. Fault tracing across multiple outdoor circuits and board work sit higher. Work requiring utility notification is scoped separately and discussed before it starts.
07QUESTIONS
- Can I just fit a bigger breaker?
- No. The breaker protects the cable. A larger breaker lets the cable overheat before it trips.
- Why only in the evening?
- That is when the most appliances run together and when connections are warmest after a day of use.
