AC ceiling grilles sweating or dripping
On humid days, especially when doors are opened often, droplets form on the face of ceiling supply grilles and sometimes drip onto floors or furniture. Small grey stains may appear around the grille. The AC is working; the issue is where very cold air meets warm, moist air.
Air Conditioning
AC failure in summer is treated as an emergency and scheduled ahead of routine work.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Uninsulated or damaged duct end behind the grille
Insulation missing or torn at the grille collar when inspected.
Supply air very cold due to low airflow
Supply temperature unusually low with reduced airflow measured.
High indoor humidity from open doors or wet areas
Humidity readings high near the affected grilles.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Keep external doors and windows closed while the AC runs.
- Run bathroom and kitchen extract fans when in use.
- Wipe grilles dry and note which ones sweat.
- Check filters, since low airflow makes air colder.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We measure supply air temperature and airflow at the affected grilles and room humidity, then remove a grille to inspect the duct collar and insulation. That separates a duct insulation problem from an airflow or humidity one.
04IN A VILLA
Villas with open-plan living areas, frequent door use onto terraces and large wet areas bring humid air in contact with ceiling grilles. Duct collars in villa ceiling voids are also easily disturbed during lighting or decoration work, leaving bare metal behind the grille.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Repeated dripping stains ceilings and floors and can encourage mould around grilles.
Repair insulation at the duct collar
Insulation is missing or damaged behind the grille.
Restore airflow
Low airflow is making supply air too cold.
Reduce indoor humidity
Moist air from outside or wet areas is the main driver.
06Typical villa AC callout
AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault
Diagnostic visit and measurement are quoted up front. Coil cleaning, fan motors and control faults sit at the lower end; compressor and refrigerant work at the upper. Anything involving parts is priced after inspection, never before.
07QUESTIONS
- Is the AC leaking?
- No; this is condensation on the grille rather than a leak from the unit.
- Why only on humid days?
- Condensation forms when moist air touches a cold surface.
- Will a different grille help?
- Sometimes, but insulation and airflow usually matter more.
