Outdoor AC running but no air inside
You can hear the outdoor unit running, but no air comes from the indoor unit or the ceiling grilles, or only a faint draught. Sometimes the indoor unit hums without its fan turning. Left like this, ice can form on the indoor coil because the cold has nowhere to go.
Air Conditioning
AC failure in summer is treated as an emergency and scheduled ahead of routine work.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Indoor fan motor failed
Motor does not turn when powered, or draws abnormal current.
Fan capacitor failed
Capacitor measured below its rating; the motor hums but will not start.
Control board or relay not sending power to the fan
No voltage at the fan connector when the controller calls for it.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Switch the system off to stop the coil freezing.
- Check the controller is set to cool and a fan speed is selected.
- Listen at the indoor unit for a hum or click.
- Do not open the indoor unit casing; fans and electrics are inside.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We check for voltage at the fan motor when the controller calls for it, test the capacitor, and measure motor windings. That tells us whether the motor, the capacitor or the control side has failed before any part is ordered.
04IN A VILLA
Ducted villa systems often have their indoor fan units in ceiling voids or plant spaces that run very hot in summer, which shortens motor and capacitor life. Access hatches are sometimes small or hidden, so knowing where the unit is saves time.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
With no airflow, the coil freezes and melting ice can overflow onto ceilings. The outdoor unit also works against a frozen coil, risking compressor damage.
Replace the fan capacitor
The capacitor tests low and the motor is sound.
Replace the fan motor
The motor has failed.
Repair the control side
No power reaches the fan when it should.
06Typical villa AC callout
AED 180 – 900 depending on the fault
Diagnostic visit and measurement are quoted up front. Coil cleaning, fan motors and control faults sit at the lower end; compressor and refrigerant work at the upper. Anything involving parts is priced after inspection, never before.
07QUESTIONS
- Why is the outdoor unit still running?
- It is controlled separately; it keeps running even when the indoor fan has stopped.
- Should I switch everything off?
- Yes, until the indoor fan is fixed.
- Where is the indoor unit in a ducted system?
- Usually in a ceiling void or plant space with an access hatch.
