02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Check the water sits at the middle of the skimmer mouth.
- Empty the skimmer basket and check the weir flap moves freely.
- Note whether anyone has changed valve positions in the plant room.
- Look at which way the return jets push the surface water.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We check level and weir, test suction at the skimmer with other lines isolated, inspect the valve arrangement, and set the returns to create a surface current towards the skimmer. If suction is weak with everything correct, the line is investigated for a blockage.
04IN A VILLA
Garden pools collect a lot of leaf and dust load, and villa owners often adjust valves for vacuuming and forget to set them back. Evaporation in summer also drops the water level quickly, and a skimmer drawing air stops skimming.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Debris that is not skimmed sinks, breaks down and feeds algae, increasing chemical demand and filter load.
Reset water level, valve balance and return direction
Setup has drifted.
Clear the skimmer line
A blockage is restricting suction.

- Can I top up with a garden hose?
- Yes, to bring the level to the middle of the skimmer. If you are topping up very often, it is worth checking for a leak.
- Is an automatic cleaner a replacement?
- It helps with the floor, but surface skimming still depends on the skimmer working.
