Cloudy water that settles clear in a glass

Water comes out milky or white and then clears in the glass, usually from the bottom up. That pattern almost always means tiny air bubbles, not dirt. It is worth knowing why it is happening, and when cloudiness that does not clear means something else.

Water Tanks

Normally scheduled work. Overflow and total supply failure are handled as urgent.

01LIKELY CAUSES

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.

  • Air drawn in by the booster pump or after an interruption

Cloudiness clears from the bottom up within a minute; pump inlet inspected.

  • Pressure changes releasing dissolved air

Cloudiness worst after the pump starts.

  • Sediment or biological growth (if it does not clear)

Particles settle at the bottom instead of rising; tank inspected.

02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS

What you can safely check.

  • Fill a glass and watch: clearing from the bottom up suggests air.
  • If particles settle at the bottom, stop drinking it until checked.
  • Note whether it started after a supply interruption or pump work.
  • Check whether one outlet or all are affected.

03WHAT WE MEASURE

We check the pump inlet and suction side for air leaks, inspect the tank level and condition, and confirm whether the cloudiness is air or something that needs cleaning.

04IN A VILLA

Villa systems pump water from a tank, and a small air leak on the pump's suction side or a low tank level draws air into the supply, which shows as milky water at every tap.

05THE FIX

Which repair, and when.

Air in the supply is mostly harmless, but a suction leak can damage the pump, and sediment-related cloudiness deserves a tank clean.

  1. Seal the pump suction side

Air is entering at the pump inlet.

  2. Clean the tank

Cloudiness is from sediment or growth.

  3. No work needed

It is occasional air that clears quickly after an interruption.

06Typical villa tank service

AED 450 – 1,100 depending on size and access

Driven mainly by tank volume, number of tanks and how difficult the access is. Float valve and inlet repairs are usually a separate, much smaller item and are quoted at inspection.

07QUESTIONS

Is cloudy water safe?
Cloudiness that clears from the bottom up is usually air. Water with settling particles should be checked before drinking.
Why does it happen after the pump starts?
Pressure changes and suction-side air leaks release bubbles into the water.
