Door or window handle loose
A door or window handle wobbles, droops below level, or spins without moving the latch, so the door or window will not open or lock. Sometimes the handle comes away in your hand, or one side of a pair of handles works while the other does not.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Grub screw loose
Handle slides on the spindle.
Spindle worn or broken
Spindle rounded or snapped.
Rose fixings loose
Backplate moves.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Tighten visible grub screws.
- Avoid forcing a spinning handle.
- Note if a door could lock someone in.
- Keep window handles closed until checked.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We check the grub screws that hold the handle on its spindle, the spindle itself for wear or breakage, and the fixings of the rose or backplate. If the handle is sound, we look inside at the latch or window mechanism, since a stiff mechanism can strip handles repeatedly.
04IN A VILLA
Villas have many doors and large sliding or tilt-and-turn windows with handles used every day, sometimes by children swinging on them. Heat and constant use loosen grub screws and fixings, and a spinning handle on a bathroom or bedroom door can trap someone inside.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
A failing handle can trap someone in a room, or leave a window that looks locked actually unsecured. The fix is usually simple if caught early.
Tighten fixings
Screws are loose.
Replace spindle
It is worn.
Replace handle set
Parts are damaged.

Indicative market ranges, not a quotation — a firm price follows inspection. Most accumulated lists are a half or full day. Standard fixings and consumables are included; anything specialist is agreed with you before it is bought.
07QUESTIONS
- Can I fix it myself?
- Tightening grub screws often helps.
- Why does it spin?
- The spindle or its connection has failed.
- Are window handles different?
- Yes, they use specific mechanisms.
- What if someone is locked in?
- Most internal door latches can be operated by inserting a tool through the spindle hole; if not, call for help rather than forcing the door.
