Black mould spots on bedroom or wardrobe walls
Small black or grey spots appear on a wall behind a bed or sofa, inside a built-in wardrobe, or in a corner near the ceiling. Clothes in the wardrobe may smell musty. Wiping removes the spots for a while, but they return.

What usually sits behind this symptom, and what tells one cause from another.
Cold wall surface from AC and poor air movement
Surface temperature measured lower than the room, with high humidity behind furniture.
Humidity from a nearby bathroom or laundry
Humidity readings high; extract fans weak or unused.
Hidden moisture in the wall
Moisture meter readings high in the substrate, pointing to a leak.
02BEFORE ANYONE VISITS
What you can safely check.
- Pull furniture a little away from the wall to let air circulate.
- Run bathroom extract fans during and after showers.
- Wipe spots with a suitable mould cleaner while wearing gloves.
- Check whether the wall is damp to the touch or only has surface spots.
03WHAT WE MEASURE
We measure surface temperature, room humidity and moisture in the wall itself. A dry wall with cold, humid air points to condensation; a wet substrate points to a leak that needs finding before any repainting.
04IN A VILLA
Villas cool large rooms with AC set low, while built-in wardrobes and furniture against outside walls create pockets where cold surfaces meet still, humid air. En-suite bathrooms next to bedrooms add moisture, and rooms closed up for weeks have no air movement at all.
05THE FIX
Which repair, and when.
Mould spreads, damages finishes and clothing, and makes rooms smell musty. Painting over it without treatment brings it back quickly.
Clean and treat, then repaint with a suitable paint
Spots are surface mould from condensation.
Improve ventilation
Humidity is the driver.
Find and fix the leak first
The wall itself is wet.
06Typical villa painting work
Quoted after survey — area and preparation dependent
Preparation is the variable, not the paint. A villa needing crack repair and moisture remediation costs substantially more than one needing coats alone, and we would rather show you why on site than give a number that changes later.
07QUESTIONS
- Is it a leak?
- Often not; condensation is common. Moisture readings tell the difference.
- Will anti-mould paint fix it?
- It helps after cleaning, but the humidity or leak must be dealt with.
- Why inside the wardrobe?
- Air does not move there, so surfaces stay cold and damp.
- Should we stop using the AC?
- No. Better air movement and humidity control are the usual answer.
